Specialty cuts (Asian fusion, teddy bear, etc.)

Published 2026-05-17

Beyond standard breed cuts, several specialty styles have become popular in Florida — driven by social media and showcased in Miami, Tampa, and Orlando salons.

Asian fusion cut. Originated in Japan and Korea, popular for Poodles and Doodles. Round face, long ears, short body, exaggerated leg poof. Looks like a stuffed animal. Requires a skilled stylist; not every Florida salon offers it. Cost: $80–$150.

Teddy bear cut. Rounded face, even body length (1–2 inches), no extreme features. Most popular Florida specialty cut. Easier to maintain than Asian fusion. Cost: same as a regular full groom.

Lion cut. Mane around head/chest, shaved body, tuft at tail. Common for Pomeranians, Pekingese, and occasionally cats. Polarizing — some owners love it, some find it cruel-looking. Cost: $60–$120.

Dyed accents. Pink ears, blue tails, rainbow streaks. Uses pet-safe semi-permanent dye. Lasts 4–8 weeks. Cost: $30–$80 for accents, $100–$300 for full color. Mostly available in Miami and South Florida salons.

To find a specialty stylist: ask salons for portfolio photos before booking. Instagram is your best friend — most Florida specialty groomers have heavy Instagram presence.
