Mobile vs. storefront — which is right for your dog
The choice between mobile and storefront grooming isn't about quality — both can be excellent. It's about fit.
Mobile is better for: anxious dogs (less stress), senior dogs (no car ride), aggressive dogs (no exposure to other dogs), multi-dog households (saves transport time), busy professionals (no drop-off/pickup), gated community residents, and anyone who values convenience.
Storefront is better for: very large dogs (bigger tubs and tables), specialty cuts (more equipment available), cost-conscious owners (storefront is 30–50% cheaper), dogs that enjoy the social environment, and one-off needs like emergency cleanup.
Cost difference in Florida: small dog full groom averages $60–$80 storefront vs. $90–$110 mobile. The premium covers fuel, van payments, and the one-customer-at-a-time business model.
Time difference: storefront usually requires drop-off (4–6 hours typical). Mobile usually finishes in 60–90 minutes total, including setup, grooming, and packup.
Quality: roughly equivalent. Mobile vans have full equipment but tighter spaces. Salons have more room but interruptions and transitions between dogs.
Florida-specific note: mobile grooming has grown faster here than the national average, partly because of climate (less stress for dogs not riding in hot cars) and demographics (large snowbird and elderly populations).
For most owners, trying both at least once is worth it. You'll quickly learn which works better for your dog.
