Cockapoo grooming tips
Cockapoos blend Cocker Spaniel and Poodle, and the resulting coat is anywhere between the two depending on which parent dominates. In Florida salons, you'll see Cockapoos with everything from straight Cocker-like fur to tight Poodle curls. Each needs different care.
For wavy or curly coats: brush every 1–2 days, full groom every 5–7 weeks, similar to a small Goldendoodle.
For straighter coats: brush 2–3 times a week, full groom every 6–8 weeks. Closer to Cocker maintenance.
Most Florida Cockapoos wear a "puppy cut" — 1 to 1.5 inches all over with a rounded face. Keeps the coat manageable and looks tidy in summer.
Ear care is critical. Cockapoos inherit floppy, hairy ears from both parents — a perfect setup for ear infections in Florida humidity. Pluck ear hair at every grooming visit. Clean ears weekly at home with an enzymatic cleaner.
Eye area: trim short to prevent tear staining. Most Cockapoos have light coats around the eyes that show stains easily.
Tail and feet: trim regularly. Long fur on feet collects mulch, sand, and Florida grass clippings.
