Boston Terrier care in humid climate
Boston Terriers are brachycephalic like French Bulldogs but with significantly fewer skin folds and a longer muzzle. Florida humidity is easier on Bostons than Frenchies, but still requires attention.
Bathe every 3–4 weeks with a hypoallergenic shampoo. Bostons have sensitive skin and can flare with allergies, especially during Florida pollen seasons (February–May).
Eye care: Bostons have prominent eyes that are vulnerable to scratches, ulcers, and tear staining. Wipe under the eyes daily with a damp cloth. If you see redness, squinting, or excessive tearing, see a vet — eye injuries in this breed need fast attention.
Ears: erect, less prone to infection than droopy ears, but still need monthly cleaning. Florida humidity gets in.
The single facial fold (the "Boston frown" above the nose) needs daily cleaning. Less critical than Frenchies but still a yeast risk in humidity.
Heat: like Frenchies, brachycephalic breathing makes overheating dangerous. Walk early morning. Watch for blue gums, excessive panting, or weakness — those are heatstroke signs requiring immediate cooling and vet visit.
Coat care: short and smooth, low-maintenance. A weekly rubber curry brush removes loose hair and distributes coat oils.
